Perfect Pick for Middle-Grade Readers and Families
Read this with my 10-year-old son, and we both had a blast. Barry’s transition from a relatable, bumbling candy factory worker to a reluctant hero in Azoonite makes him extremely likeable. Marie Christopher creates an inventive world with clever creature concepts. Highly recommended for fans of portal fantasies and whimsical adventure!

Whimsical World-Building with Great Character Chemistry
The world of Azoonite is richly imagined, from the towering mushroom trees to the mysterious Amulet of Azoonite. The witty banter between Barry, Hugo, Harkon, and Adeer gives the journey a classic adventure crew feel. The plot moves briskly, and Barry's internal monologue adds a great layer of humor throughout.

Charming, Funny, and Mystifying
What makes this book stand out is its humor and heart. Watching Barry navigate life as an auburn fox while dealing with phantoms and mysterious ancient legends creates a fun, fast-paced read. The mystery surrounding his true origin and the missing tokens sets up a promising series.

Great Balance of Spookiness and Fun
This story balances playful magical fantasy with genuine suspense from the Phantoms. Barry is a hero kids can root for precisely because he starts out so unassertive and ordinary. It’s an ideal book for reluctant middle-grade readers looking for humor, animal companions, and magical quests.
Jessica Miller (Elementary Media Specialist)
An Unforgettable Portal Fantasy Debut
From the moment Barry stumbles through the portal into Azoonite, the reader is treated to a non-stop, imaginative adventure. The creature design—especially the mischievous sproonghaft dragon—is brilliant. It strikes that elusive sweet spot of being deeply funny while still keeping the narrative stakes high.

Clever, Warmhearted, and Surprisingly Cozy
What I loved most about The Phantom Mystery is how cozy yet thrilling the world feels. Moving through shroomtree forests and unraveling the mystery of the Amulet makes for great bedtime reading. Barry’s growth from a nervous factory worker to a brave leader is wonderful character development.
Laura Bennett
A Fast-Paced Mystery for Fantasy Lovers
The pacing in this book is spot-on. Christopher builds mystery around the Phantoms and the missing tokens while keeping the story lightened by Barry's sarcastic internal thoughts. It’s a complete package for young fantasy enthusiasts who enjoy world-building and humor in equal measure.

A Thrilling Expansion of the Azoonite Universe
Mountain Interchange takes everything that made the first book so special and elevates it. The transition to the high-altitude terrain of the Mountain Interchange brings fresh challenges and stunning visual set-pieces. Barry’s continued growth as a hero—and his hilarious, reluctant acceptance of his role—makes this installment an absolute joy to read.

High-Stakes Action with the Same Whimsical Heart
Read this with my son over the weekend, and it completely exceeded our expectations. The new environmental hazards and clever lore surrounding the mountain passes kept us hooked. Hugo’s antics are as funny as ever, but it’s the deepening mystery and expanding world-building that truly shines here.

The journey continues...
After restoring the legendary Shield of Garadar to Castle Azoonite, Barry discovers that his quest is far from over. With one Realm Token returned, the ancient castle begins to awaken, revealing that the fate of the six Realms is deeply connected to the recovery of the remaining magical artifacts.
Joined by his loyal companions—Hugo, the witty sproonghaft, and Adina, an energetic stone mouse guide—Barry ventures into the dangerous Mountain Realm in search of the legendary Helmet of Barroniq. Their expedition leads them through towering peaks, enchanted forests, mysterious caves, hidden gorges, and ancient ruins where every path holds new dangers and unexpected allies.
As Barry grows into his role as an Archon of Azoonite, he must overcome not only terrifying creatures and impossible landscapes but also his own self-doubt. Every challenge brings him one step closer to uncovering the truth behind the centuries-old Mutiny Debacle that nearly destroyed the Realms.
